Utilizing your spaces

Cathederal ceililng are a great source of untapped space. The plan for the entryway in our home included a cathederal entry way. I envisioned it as a room instead. So that is what we did. We created a room that I use daily as my art room/office. The down stairs hall ceiling is still nine feet high. Just the right height for me to still get the cobwebs. The cost to do this was minimal; remember I am extremly thrifty or cheap as some call me.
Here are some photos of how it turned out.

Easy being Green

Going Green seems to be the new trend. Actually, this trend has been around for a very long time but was not branded and marketed as such. The old campain was Save the Planet.
Many people seem to be confused about what they are supposed to do and that it will cost them bucco bucks to do.
There are simple everyday things that just make plain sense that are green. I have been "green" forever. Really what I have been is cheap and by default have made my life green.
Here is a sample of easy things that actually save money and help the enviroment and use less resources.
This will be an on going topic that I will be adding to. Today we will start with Electric bills;
*Seal your windows and doors so the heat and air don't escape
*Close your blinds during the summer to keep the hot sun out and open them in the winter to let the sun shine in and help warm up a room.
*Use the new compact fluorescent bulbs. They not only last longer than traditional bulbs, but the also use a lot less energy.
*Use cold water when doing laundry and do full loads.
*Insulate your attic. Heat rises and will go right up through the roof.
This is just a few simple things you can do. Please log in and add to the list or share more ideas on how you are green or maybe like me; cheap.
Hey, I figure all the money I save on energy costs is money I can spend on a vacation.

A work in progress

My life is a work in progress. Always changing-thank God. Who I am is me! What I do is write, photograph, build and renovate houses with my husband, and try to create art. My mind goes a hundred miles an hour. I am constantly thinking of new projects, new ideas, things I want to do and have not yet accomplished. The purpose of my blog is to share some of my ideas and projects with you. Be on the lookout for some great budget decorating ideas, easy to be green things, building and renovating your home survival tips, and anything else that burns up my brain cells. I also have two grown kids and four grand kids who I love to spout about. So I hope you will join me on my life ride with it's up's, downs, twists and turns, and have fun sharing creative ideas. Life. It goes? Where you take it! Just Ride.
